LOSING MY VIRGINITY!
It took 39 years and a few months but it’s about to happen… I’m a blogger! Losing my blog virginity feels surreal and scary at the same time. I never thought this would happen but I’m glad it did. Every now and then it’s time to do things that make you go out of your comfort zone. This for sure, is one of those things for me.
I have to confess I am not doing this completely voluntarily. This blog is a part of my studies at Laurea University of Applied Science in Otaniemi. Actually this digital business course is one of the reasons I chose to go to school in Otaniemi. Digital business is what business is all about nowadays and I felt that I’ve got a lot to learn in that area. So my expectations of this course are least to say sky high. No pressure Ilkka and Anna! I hope you can turn me from a rookie to a digital business nerd during the next few months.

Our week kicked off with course introduction and guest speaker Ronja Salmi. She really impressed me. It is amazing how much she has accomplished at the age of 23. I enjoyed her speech and picked out several very useful tips for the future. Here's just a few of them:
Write for 15 minutes, don’t stop even for a second. Come back and edit later on
Just do it, you don’t need to be a champion when you start!
Pass on the compliment! (This one, in my opinion, can be the deal breaker in work life!)
Unfortunately I missed Friday’s class. But since it’s a digital course I had the opportunity to watch most of it on Facebook later on. How great is that! We started with theory of SEO pyramid which is a good basis for every business online. Next week we will get our first group assignment. It will be for Mazda and sounds really exciting.
I’ve had an awesome week. After the course kicked off I travelled to Tallinn for four days to network and to play poker. The annual European Championships in poker for all casino employees was held at the beautiful new Hilton Hotel and Olympic Casino. The casino director is my former boss from Casino Helsinki. So I was super excited to meet him again.
I’ve worked in casino business for 18 years and this was a thirteenth time I took part in the event. It is always a blast and at the same time a great way to get to know colleagues from different countries.
So did I win? No. I went all in with the best hand but sometimes that’s just not enough. But don’t worry, I’ll be back next year to give it another shot!
